Symbolic Furniture

Jencks’ archive at The Cosmic House is home to an extensive collection of slides that was frequently used in lectures and presentations. The slides contain a variety of references for symbolic furniture, which informed the approach to the design of furniture and fittings in The Cosmic House. Wide-ranging in scope, the examples hail from numerous and seemingly disparate geographical and historical contexts. The slides assembled here are testimony not only to Jencks’ omnivorous aesthetic tastes, but also to the Post-Modern eclecticism of references employed in the design of the house.
